The Mission Committee encourages each member of our congregation to be involved in mission. We promote prayer for each of our mission projects. We encourage church members to become educated about the mission work of our church and its mission partners. We seek active participation in mission work by the offering of time, talents, and resources.Our Church supports the following mission endeavors:
The Four Special Offerings of the Presbyterian Church (USA):
One Great Hour of Sharing - Proceeds go toward empowering the world’s poor and providing them with food and shelter.
Pentecost Offering - Supports overseas missions (50%), evangelism and church development (30%), and youth education and witness, and children at risk (20%).
Peacemaking- Supports peacemaking efforts on the local level (25%), the Presbytery and Synod level (25%) and the General Assembly (50%).
Christmas Joy - Supplements inadequate pensions and medical insurance of retired church workers and supports our racial-ethnic schools and colleges.
The Missions of Wabash Valley Presbytery and Synod of Lincoln Trails:Geneva Center- A Presbyterian sponsored camp, conference, and retreat center with year around programs for children and adults. It is located near Rochester, Indiana.
The Peabody Retirement Community - This Presbyterian sponsored community for older adults is located in North Manchester, Indiana. Gracious living is provided in an active and caring environment.
The Theological Education Fund - The only denomination wide funding for those responding to God’s call as scholars dedicated to theological education in the Reformed Tradition.
Our Missions Outside of Wabash County . . .
Africa – PCUSA Medical Benevolence Foundation- Provides crucial funds needed to give medical care to the needy.
All India - It is an evangelical, non-denominational Christian mission in India.
Brazil- County resident Ben Royer works for New Tribes Missions in Brazil.
Damien Center - The Damien Center in Indianapolis provides for the needs of people suffering from AIDS.
Haiti– PCUSA Haiti Mission works alongside Haitian partners in medical facilities, agricultural and environmental education, literacy, vocational training and community-based development.
Jubilee Partners - This community of Christians near Comer, Georgia responds to the needs of the oppressed with provisions for safe transportation and residency for international refugees.
Our Wabash Area Missions . . .
The Access - This downtown Wabash center provides wholesome evening leisure time activities for “children of the street”.
A.R.C. - Association for Retarded Citizens of Wabash provides a weekday school for special needs adults.
F.I.S.H. - Friends in Service Here is a food pantry supplied by community-wide donations. It serves year around to those in need.
Habitat for Humanity - A group of Wabash County area volunteers who provide funds and labor for the construction of homes for qualified persons in need.
Helping Hands - A local privately initiated program of meal preparation and service for those in need.
Meals on Wheels - Community volunteers deliver to shut-ins hospital prepared meals. The office for the program is located in our Education Building.
W.A.M.A. - The Wabash Area Ministerial Association is a county-wide organization of ministers whose emphasis in Christian service is to assist the basic needs of individuals and families through financial help, referrals, and counseling.
Character Building - Elementary students of the M.S.D. of Wabash County are provided an optional character building program with Christian emphasis.
White’s Residential & Family Services - A residential and educational campus for children with special social behavior and/or family crisis needs. This campus is located south of Wabash.
Winchester Senior Center– A senior center operated by the Wabash County Council on Aging, Inc.
Our Mission Projects & Events
Activities Blanket Fund - Through Church World Service our congregation participates in an annual offering on Mother’s Day to assist in providing blankets for human need in disaster and oppressed areas of the world.
Caring Circle - A special area of need is met at Peabody Retirement Community when we give financial support to provide for residents who have depleted personal funds.
Christmas Jubilee – A twenty three year old program of our congregation which provides Christmas gifts for selected Wabash County parents to give to their children. Many in the church family participate in this event each December.
Tools of Hope – A Father’s Day fund raising project benefiting Church World Service efforts to provide tools to needy throughout the developing world.
Our Historical Mission Projects
Pag-San-Jan Church (Philippines)- Our congregation funded the construction of this church building in 1949 to the Glory of God in memory of five young men of our church who gave their lives in World War II.
Mission Trips - Mission trips by Wabash Presbyterians have been initiated to Wheeling, West Virginia (1997, 1998, 2002, & 2003) to provide VBS for inner city children and adult rehab/construction projects, and to Kemmerer Village in Illinois (2001) to do general building maintenance. Future mission trips are anticipated. Also, individual members of the congregation made several work trips to the Gulf Region in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
